Cinnamon Rolls
- 1 cup whole milk, warm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
- 3-1/2 cups plus 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup seedless strawberry jam
- 3/4 cup chopped fresh strawberries
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Glaze
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1-1/4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 tablespoon whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, stir together warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
- Make Dough: Turn mixer to medium speed and gradually add 3-1/2 cups flour, egg, softened butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- First Rise: Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise at room temperature for 1-1/2 to 2 hours until doubled in size.
- Roll Dough: Sprinkle a cutting board with remaining 1/4 cup flour. Transfer dough to the surface and roll into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle. Cut into 8 even strips lengthwise.
- Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, combine strawberry jam, chopped strawberries, and ground cinnamon. Spread the mixture evenly over each dough strip using a spatula.
- Form Rolls: Starting with the long edge, tightly roll each strip into a cinnamon roll. Place rolls in a greased 13×9-inch baking dish.
- Second Rise: Cover with a towel and let the rolls rise an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 35-38 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
- Make Glaze: While rolls bake, beat cream cheese and butter on medium speed until smooth. Gradually add confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla extract; beat until creamy.
- Glaze and Serve: Spread cream cheese glaze over warm cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Make sure milk is warm, not hot, when mixing with yeast to avoid killing the yeast.
- Use fresh strawberries for the best fruity flavor and texture.
- The dough rising times may vary depending on room temperature; warmer environments speed up rising.
- Rolls can be stored covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or frozen before baking and baked fresh later.
- For an extra touch, sprinkle chopped strawberries on the glaze just before serving.
