Description

Delightfully spooky Pizza Mummies made with store-bought pizza dough and topped with classic pizza favorites like mozzarella, salami, and fresh veggies. Perfect for a fun Halloween snack, these easy-to-make pizza treats feature a creative X-pattern bandage design and spooky olive spiders to impress kids and guests alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Mummies

  • 500g store-bought pizza dough
  • 8 heaped teaspoons pizza sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup salami, chopped
  • 1/4 cup baby spinach, chopped
  • 1/2 cup diced red capsicum (bell pepper)
  • Olive oil spray
  • Heat treated flour, to dust

Spooky Decorations

  • 16 spooky edible eyes
  • 8-10 green olives

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a large baking sheet with baking paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Prepare the dough: Cut and roll the pizza dough into 8 equal rectangles. Make horizontal cuts along both long sides of each rectangle to create thin strips that will become the mummy bandages.
  3. Assemble the filling: Spread approximately one teaspoon of pizza sauce in the center of each rectangle. Layer on shredded mozzarella, chopped salami, baby spinach, and diced red capsicum, making sure to leave the edges with the dough strips uncovered.
  4. Create the mummy bandages: Gently pull the dough strips over the filling from both sides, pressing lightly to form an X pattern that mimics mummy bandages.
  5. Prepare for baking: Lightly spray the tops of each mummy with olive oil to help them brown beautifully during baking.
  6. Bake: Place the mummies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden and cooked through.
  7. Make the olive spiders: Slice green olives in half to form the spider bodies. Slice additional olives lengthwise to create legs, then arrange them around the mummies for a spooky effect.
  8. Finish and serve: Dust the pizza mummies lightly with heat-treated flour for a mummy-like texture, add the edible eyes on top, and serve with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • These pizza mummies are quick and easy to assemble, making them a great last-minute Halloween snack.
  • Use heat-treated flour for dusting to avoid affecting the dough’s rise and texture.
  • Feel free to substitute salami with pepperoni or another favorite pizza meat.
  • Extra pizza sauce on the side makes a perfect dip that kids love.
  • The olive spiders add a creative and creepy touch suitable for Halloween parties.
