Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Base
- 240 grams dark chocolate (approx 1½ cups regular dark chocolate morsels)
- 240 grams unsalted butter (2 sticks and 1 tablespoon)
- 2½ cups white sugar (approximately 520 grams)
- 6 eggs (at room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup all purpose flour (approximately 100 grams)
- Pinch of salt
Topping
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup butterscotch chips (caramel chips work if you can’t find butterscotch)
- 1 cup pecans (finely chopped)
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 325° F. Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
- Melt Chocolate and Butter: In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
- Add Sugar and Cool: Remove from heat and stir in the white sugar until combined. Let the mixture cool slightly for about 15 minutes to avoid cooking the eggs later.
- Incorporate Eggs and Vanilla: Add eggs and vanilla extract to the cooled mixture and stir well to combine.
- Add Flour and Salt: Gently fold in the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt until just incorporated and the batter is smooth.
- Bake Brownie Base: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake on the middle rack for 20-25 minutes. The brownies may still jiggle slightly when done, which is okay.
- Increase Temperature: Remove the pan from the oven and increase the oven temperature to 350° F. Do not proceed until the oven reaches the higher temperature.
- Add Toppings: Evenly sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped pecans, and shredded coconut over the partially baked brownies. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top.
- Finish Baking: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes at 350° F until the topping is set and golden.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow to cool completely before cutting and serving to ensure clean slices and ideal texture.
