Description

This Honey Garlic Soy Glazed Salmon recipe features tender salmon fillets marinated in a rich blend of soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Baked to perfection and topped with a thickened glaze, this dish offers a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and umami flavors. Ideal for a quick, healthy weeknight dinner or a special occasion, it’s easy to prepare and pairs wonderfully with steamed broccoli and rice.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets, about 6 ounces (170g) each

Marinade

  • 1/3 cup (80ml) reduced sodium soy sauce (or regular)
  • 1/3 cup (113g) honey
  • 1 Tablespoon (15ml) sesame oil (or olive oil)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced (or 2 teaspoons jarred/minced garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon peeled minced fresh ginger

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped green onion
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Marinate the salmon: Place the salmon fillets into a large zippered food storage bag or a shallow dish. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and minced fresh ginger. Pour about half of the marinade mixture over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the fish.
  2. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (191°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper, a silicone baking mat, or aluminum foil to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  3. Bake salmon: Arrange the marinated salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet, placing them skin side down. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. An instant-read thermometer should register 145°F (63°C) for safe consumption.
  4. Prepare glaze: While the salmon bakes, pour the remaining half of the marinade into a small saucepan. Simmer gently over medium heat until the sauce thickens to a glaze consistency, which helps intensify the flavor and provides a glossy finish.
  5. Glaze and serve: Once the salmon is baked, drizzle the thickened glaze evenly over the fillets. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for added texture and visual appeal. Serve immediately for the best flavor and freshness.

Notes

  • Make Ahead Instructions: You can marinate the salmon up to 4 hours in advance; for best results, do not exceed 8 hours.
  • Special Tools: Using glass containers, a glass mixing bowl, whisk, baking sheet, silicone baking mat or parchment paper, foil, instant read thermometer, and a small saucepan will make cooking and cleanup easier.
  • Sides: Pair this salmon with steamed broccoli and rice, drizzled with the remaining glaze for a complete meal.
  • Frozen Salmon: Ensure the salmon is fully thawed before marinating and cooking for even results.
  • Chicken Substitute: If substituting chicken, marinate longer (about 1 hour) and increase baking time accordingly.
