Ingredients
Scale
Apples and Sticks
- 4 green apples, cold (Granny Smith recommended)
- 4 lollipop sticks or strong garden sticks, cleaned
Chocolate Coatings
- 1 ¾ cups (200 grams) peanut butter chips
- 1 ¾ cups (200 grams) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 ¾ cups (200 grams) white chocolate chips
Toppings
- ¼ cup (32 grams) dried cranberries
- ½ cup (75 grams) chopped pecans
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: If the apples have wax coating, remove it by briefly dipping them in boiling water and wiping clean or rubbing with a baking soda and water mixture, then rinse thoroughly. Dry apples completely before proceeding.
- Insert Sticks: Remove apple stems and firmly insert lollipop sticks or cleaned garden sticks into the core of each apple to create handles.
- Set Up Cooling Area: Line a small baking sheet with wax or parchment paper and place it in an area of your fridge with enough room to accommodate the apples for setting.
- Melt Chocolates: Place peanut butter chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips into separate microwave-safe containers. Heat each one individually in 10-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
- Dip or Drizzle Apples: Dip each apple entirely into the melted chocolate of choice or drizzle the chocolate evenly over them, allowing any excess to drip back into the container. Place coated apples onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Add Toppings: While the chocolate is still melted, sprinkle or press dried cranberries and chopped pecans onto the apples as desired for extra flavor and texture.
- Chill to Set: Transfer the baking sheet with apples to the fridge and let them chill until the chocolate coatings are firm and set, approximately 15-20 minutes.
- Optional Decoration: Once set, add additional drizzles of contrasting melted chocolate or other fun decorations of your choice to enhance appearance and taste.
- Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your festive and delicious homemade chocolate apples as a sweet treat or party dessert.
Notes
- Granny Smith apples provide a tart contrast that pairs beautifully with dark and white chocolate coatings.
- If removing wax, ensure apples are fully dried before dipping to help chocolate adhere properly.
- Use separate containers for melting each type of chocolate to prevent mixing flavors unless desired.
- Store finished apples in the refrigerator until serving to keep chocolate firm.
