Description

Delightfully sweet Hanukkah sugar cookies with a soft, tender texture, enhanced by rich vanilla and finished with melted dark chocolate and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for festive celebrations, these cookies are easy to make and fun to decorate with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups (175 grams) all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (50 grams) sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 stick (100 grams) melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or paste

Decoration

  • 1 chocolate bar (dark chocolate recommended)
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Mix Butter and Sugar: In a stand mixer bowl fitted with the flat beater attachment, combine the melted butter and sugar. Beat them together until well combined.
  2. Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract or paste to the butter and sugar mixture. Continue beating until the mixture is fully unified and smooth.
  3. Add Flour: Gradually add the all purpose flour to the wet mixture. Mix just for a couple of minutes until the dough forms. Take care not to overmix to avoid tough cookies.
  4. Form Dough Ball and Chill: Using your hands, gather the dough into a single ball. Wrap the dough tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 1 hour to rest and firm up.
  5. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 170°C (350°F) with the fan setting on to ensure even baking.
  6. Roll Out Dough: On a floured surface, roll the chilled dough out to a thickness between ¼ and 3/8 inch.
  7. Cut Shapes: Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into desired festive shapes. Place the cut-outs on a baking pan lined with parchment or a baking sheet, spacing the cookies about 1 inch apart.
  8. Bake Cookies: Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges just turn golden brown, indicating they are perfectly baked.
  9. Cool Cookies: Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely at room temperature before decorating.
  10. Melt Chocolate for Decoration: Place a few cubes of the dark chocolate into a piping bag and set this bag inside a glass of boiling water until the chocolate melts smoothly.
  11. Decorate Cookies: Cut a small hole at the tip of the piping bag and pipe the melted chocolate onto the cooled cookies as desired. Immediately sprinkle with colorful sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.
  12. Set Decorations: Allow the chocolate decorations to set and harden on the cookies before serving or packaging.
  13. Enjoy: Serve these festive Hanukkah sugar cookies and enjoy the sweet celebration!
