Description

These Halloween Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes are festive, adorable treats perfect for any Halloween party or school event. Featuring moist cupcakes topped with green buttercream ‘grass’, marshmallow pumpkins, and vibrant orange and green M&M decorations, this recipe combines fun decoration with delicious flavor for a spooky yet sweet celebration.

Ingredients

Scale

Cupcakes

  • 18 cupcake batter portions (baked in black cupcake liners)

Frosting

  • 1 batch of The Best Buttercream Frosting
  • Wilton Color Right Food Coloring System – Orange, Blue, Yellow, Red (to tint frosting orange and green)

Decorations

  • 18 Regular Sized Marshmallows
  • Orange M&M’s (about 20-25 per cupcake)
  • Green M&M’s (for pumpkin stems)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cupcakes: Bake your cupcakes in black cupcake liners as per your favorite cupcake recipe or box mix instructions.
  2. Sort M&M’s: Separate orange M&M’s from a large bag, making sure you have about 20-25 orange M&M’s for each cupcake.
  3. Make and Tint Frosting: Prepare a batch of the best buttercream frosting. Tint a portion orange for the pumpkin and another portion green to resemble grass.
  4. Apply Green Frosting Grass: Using a pastry bag fitted with Wilton Frosting Tip #233, pipe green buttercream on top of each cupcake to create a grass effect. Alternatively, you can spread green frosting with a knife for a smooth look.
  5. Prepare Marshmallow Pumpkins: Take a regular-sized marshmallow and pinch off about one-third from the top to shape it like a pumpkin. Cover the marshmallow in a thin layer of orange buttercream frosting to help the M&M’s stick.
  6. Anchor the Marshmallow: Place a small dollop of orange frosting in the center of the frosted cupcake top and position the marshmallow pumpkin onto it to secure it in place.
  7. Decorate the Pumpkin: With the “M” side of the orange M&M’s facing down, carefully place them around the marshmallow in rows to mimic pumpkin ridges. Add five orange M&M’s at the top of the marshmallow, then complete with a single green M&M on top to represent the pumpkin stem.

Notes

  • These cupcakes are great for Halloween parties or as school class treats.
  • Using black cupcake liners enhances the festive Halloween look.
  • Wilton Frosting Tip #233 is ideal for creating grass but using a knife for green frosting is a quick alternative.
  • Adjust the amount of orange M&M’s as needed to cover the marshmallow pumpkin fully.
