Description

This Halloween Bark Recipe is a fun and festive treat perfect for celebrating the spooky season. It features a rich base of melted semisweet or bittersweet chocolate generously topped with a variety of Halloween-themed candies, nuts, dried fruits, and crunchy snacks. Easy to prepare and customizable with your favorite toppings, this bark is a delightful mix of sweet, salty, and crunchy flavors that hardens to create a perfect party snack or gift.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Base

  • 1 pound semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate bars)

Toppings

  • 1/3 cup candy corn
  • 1/4 cup Halloween sprinkles and/or candy eyeballs
  • Pretzels, broken into pieces
  • Leftover Halloween candy (M&Ms, Reese’s pieces, candy bars, chopped bite-sized pieces)
  • Nuts (almonds, peanuts, or shelled pistachios)
  • Dried fruit (cranberries or chopped dried apricots)
  • Broken up potato chips
  • Oreo cookies (especially Halloween-colored, chopped)
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Gummy worms
  • Granola
  • Broken up graham crackers
  • Flaked or shredded coconut
  • Roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Pan: Line a rimmed baking pan with parchment paper to prevent the chocolate from sticking and to make removal easier once set.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Place the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bars in a double boiler and heat, stirring frequently, until fully melted and smooth. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate carefully in a microwave in short bursts to prevent overheating.
  3. Spread Chocolate: Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared pan. Using a knife or offset spatula, spread it evenly until it is about 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick.
  4. Add Toppings: Evenly sprinkle candy corn, Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and any other chosen toppings like pretzels, nuts, dried fruits, broken potato chips, cookies, marshmallows, gummy worms, granola, graham crackers, coconut, and roasted pumpkin seeds over the melted chocolate while it’s still warm so they adhere properly.
  5. Harden the Bark: Let the bark cool and harden at room temperature for at least 2 hours until very firm. For quicker setting, transfer the pan to the refrigerator and chill for about 30 minutes until firm enough to break.
  6. Serve and Store: Once hardened, break into pieces and serve immediately or store in an airtight container in a cool place to keep it fresh.

Notes

  • This Halloween Bark is extremely simple to make: just melt the chocolate, sprinkle with your choice of candies and toppings, then let it cool and harden.
  • You can melt the chocolate using a microwave in short 15-20 second intervals, stirring frequently, instead of using a double boiler for convenience.
  • Feel free to customize your bark with any leftover Halloween candies or snacks you like for variety and texture.
  • Storing in a cool, dry place prevents the chocolate from melting or becoming sticky.
