Ingredients

Scale

Base Treat Ingredients

  • 10 ounces large marshmallows (can use mini marshmallows)
  • 1/2 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 5-8 drops green food coloring
  • 8 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Decoration Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 18 large candy eyes
  • 9 small Tootsie Rolls
  • 1/2 cup black or brown icing

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter and marshmallows: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the large marshmallows and marshmallow fluff. Stir constantly over medium-high heat until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
  2. Add green food coloring: Stir in 5-8 drops of green food coloring to tint the marshmallow mixture. Adjust the amount of coloring to your preferred shade of green.
  3. Combine with cereal: Quickly transfer the melted marshmallow mixture into a large bowl containing the Rice Krispies cereal. Stir thoroughly until the cereal is fully coated with the marshmallow mixture. Work fast as it will start to set as it cools.
  4. Press into pan and chill: Press the mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish using a buttered spatula or your hands. Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes until firm.
  5. Cut into squares: Remove the chilled Rice Krispies from the refrigerator and cut into nine 3×4-inch squares for Frankenstein heads.
  6. Prepare melted chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate chips with vegetable oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is melted smoothly and glossy. Avoid overheating or adding water to prevent seizing.
  7. Dip treats in chocolate: Dip the top inch of each Rice Krispies square into the melted chocolate. Place them on a greased cooling rack or non-stick surface to set. Refrigerate if you want to speed up the firming of the chocolate.
  8. Add face details: Using the black or brown icing, pipe small dots where you want the eyes to be. Stick two candy eyes on each treat at the icing dots. Use the icing to add a mouth below the eyes to complete Frankenstein’s face.
  9. Attach Tootsie Roll bolts: Cut each Tootsie Roll in half and use icing to stick the halves to the sides of each Frankenstein head, mimicking bolts.
  10. Set and serve: Allow the icing to set completely. Once firm, serve and enjoy your spooky Frankenstein Rice Krispies Treats!
