Description

These Portuguese Beef Skewers, known as Espetada, are a flavorful and traditional dish featuring tender beef marinated in garlic, bay leaves, and Madeira wine, grilled to perfection with tomatoes and green peppers.

For the Beef:

  • 1 1/2 lbs beef sirloin, cubed into 2″ chunks
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 12 bay leaves, crumbled
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/4 c Madeira wine
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

For Skewering:

  • 3 Roma tomatoes, halved
  • 2 green peppers, halved and seeded
  • 2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Combine garlic, bay leaves, and pepper. Rub mixture on beef and marinate in wine and oil.
  2. Marinate: Refrigerate beef for 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Grilling: Skewer beef, tomatoes, and peppers. Grill for 3-5 minutes each side.
  4. Rest and Serve: Let skewers rest, then serve on crusty bread.
