Description

This Easy Chia Seed Very Berry Jam is a healthy, naturally sweetened fruit spread made with blueberries, cranberries, and chia seeds. Perfect for toast, yogurt, or as a topping, it requires minimal ingredients and cooks quickly on the stovetop, thickening naturally thanks to the chia seeds. It’s a delicious way to enjoy a homemade berry jam without added refined sugars.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Fruits

  • 1 1/3 cups frozen blueberries (6.7 oz)
  • 2/3 cup fresh cranberries (or frozen) (2.3 oz)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/3 tablespoons chia seeds (0.5 oz)
  • 1 1/3 tablespoons 100% pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Heat Berries: Add the blueberries, cranberries, and water to a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. This will take about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Simmer and Mash: Simmer the berries for 5 minutes, stirring often. As they soften, use a wooden spoon or fork to mash about half of the berries to release their juices and create a jam-like texture.
  3. Add Jam Ingredients: Stir in the chia seeds, maple syrup, lemon juice, and salt, then continue to simmer while stirring constantly until the mixture begins to thicken, about 3 to 4 more minutes.
  4. Cool and Thicken: Remove the saucepan from heat. The jam will continue to thicken as it cools. Serve warm or chilled as desired.

Notes

  • Can be served warm or chilled.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • If a smoother texture is preferred, mash the berries more thoroughly or pulse briefly in a blender after cooking.
  • Maple syrup can be adjusted for sweetness to taste.
