Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter
- 2 slices sturdy bread
- 1 tablespoon butter (at room temperature or spreadably soft)
Cheeses and Sauce
- 2-3 tablespoons cranberry sauce
- ¼ cup shredded mild melty cheese like white Cheddar (Jack, or Mozzarella)
- A few slices of soft cheese like Brie (Camembert, or goat chevre)
For Frying
- Grapeseed oil for frying (about 2 tablespoons)
Optional Extras
- Fresh arugula
- Sliced jalapeños
- Sriracha hot sauce
Instructions
- Butter the Bread: Spread about ½ tablespoon of butter on both sides of each slice of bread to ensure a rich, crispy exterior when fried.
- Initial Frying: Heat 1 tablespoon of grapeseed oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Place both slices of buttered bread in the pan and lightly fry them to toast the surface. Turn both slices over to toast the other side lightly.
- Assemble the Sandwich: On one slice of the lightly toasted bread, pile the shredded white Cheddar cheese evenly. Spoon dollops of cranberry sauce over the cheese. Add any optional extras like fresh arugula, sliced jalapeños, or sriracha hot sauce for added flavor and spice. Then, carefully lay slices of soft Brie cheese on top.
- Close and Cook: Place the other slice of bread on top with the toasted side facing inwards, creating a sandwich. Press down gently on the sandwich with a spatula and cook over medium-low heat until the bottom bread turns golden brown, about 3 minutes.
- Flip and Finish: Using a flat spatula, gently lift the sandwich from the pan. Add more grapeseed oil if the pan looks dry. Carefully flip the sandwich and continue frying until the other side is a dark golden brown and the cheeses inside are melted.
- Serve: Remove the sandwich from the pan, cut it in half diagonally or down the middle, and serve immediately to enjoy the gooey, flavorful combination at its best.

- Use medium-low heat to prevent burning and allow cheese to melt slowly.
