Baklava Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful fusion of soft, pillowy dough layered with a spiced nut filling, sweetened with honey and accented by fragrant rose water and dried rose petals. These rolls combine the rich flavors of traditional baklava with the comforting texture of cinnamon rolls, creating a unique and indulgent treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 cup Almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1/4 cup Olive oil (or any oil or butter)
  • 1/4 cup Raw sugar (or regular white sugar)
  • 1.5 tsp Dried active yeast
  • 2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Filling

  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Olive oil (or melted butter)
  • 1/3 cup Brown sugar
  • 3-4 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg powder
  • 1 cup Nuts (almonds, pistachios, walnuts), finely chopped

Topping

  • 1/3 cup Honey
  • 1-2 tbsp Warm water
  • 1-2 tsp Rose water
  • Dried rose petals
  • Chopped nuts (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine almond milk, raw sugar, and dried active yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix to form a soft dough, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare Filling: In a bowl, combine flour, olive oil, brown sugar, cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder, and finely chopped nuts. Mix well to form a coarse, spreadable mixture.
  5. Roll Out Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, approximately 12×16 inches.
  6. Spread Filling: Evenly spread the prepared nut and spice filling over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Shape Rolls: Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into approximately 16 equal-sized rolls.
  8. Second Rise: Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased baking pan, leaving slight space between them. Cover and let them rise for an additional 20-30 minutes.
  9. Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Prepare Honey Glaze: While the rolls bake, mix honey, warm water, and rose water in a small bowl to create a fragrant glaze.
  11. Glaze and Garnish: Once out of the oven, immediately brush the rolls generously with the honey glaze. Sprinkle with dried rose petals and additional chopped nuts for an elegant finish.
  12. Serve: Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving to enjoy the perfect balance of soft dough and crunchy, fragrant fillings.

Notes

  • These rolls combine the floral sweetness of baklava with the comforting texture of cinnamon rolls, creating a unique dessert.
  • You can substitute almond milk and olive oil with dairy milk and butter if preferred.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon and nuts according to taste.
  • Ensure the yeast is active before proceeding to get a good rise in the dough.
  • Keep the honey glaze warm for easy brushing.
  • For a vegan version, ensure the honey is replaced with a vegan alternative like agave syrup.
