Ingredients
Scale
Pastry and Cheese
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
- 10 ounce brie cheese wheel (8-12 ounces)
Toppings and Filling
- 1/3 cup fig jam (alternative jams like apricot or raspberry can be used)
- 1/4 cup walnuts (chopped)
Egg Wash
- 1 egg mixed with 1 tablespoon of water
Serving
- Fruit, crackers, or crostini for serving
- Rosemary or thyme sprigs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to a 10-12 inch square, creating enough size to envelop the brie completely.
- Assemble the Brie: Place the brie wheel at the center of the puff pastry. Spread the fig jam evenly over the top of the brie, then sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top of the jam.
- Fold the Pastry: Make a cut at each corner of the puff pastry towards the center, stopping about ½ inch from the brie. These cuts create four triangular flaps. Fold each flap up and over the brie to create a pinwheel-like enclosure. Secure the seams by brushing egg wash on the edges to help them stick together.
- Chill: Place the wrapped brie in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to let the pastry firm up, which helps it bake more evenly and prevents shrinking.
- Apply Egg Wash and Bake: Remove from the fridge and brush the entire pastry surface with the egg wash for a shiny, golden crust. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Rest and Serve: Remove from oven and let the baked brie stand for 5 minutes to cool slightly and help the cheese thicken for easy serving. Serve warm with an assortment of fruits, nuts, crackers, or bread, garnished with rosemary or thyme if desired.
Notes
- This Baked Brie with Jam appetizer is perfect for entertaining and holiday parties, combining creamy, sweet, and crunchy textures in every bite.
- Fig jam can be substituted with other fruit jams like apricot, raspberry, or cherry to customize the flavor.
- For a nut-free version, omit the walnuts or substitute with seeds such as pumpkin or sunflower seeds.
- Make sure to chill the wrapped brie before baking to ensure even puff pastry cooking and a neat presentation.
