Description

Juicy chicken drumsticks are coated in a flavorful BBQ spice mix and cooked to crispy perfection in the air fryer, then slathered with BBQ sauce for a mouthwatering finish.

Chicken Drumsticks:

  • 6 chicken drumsticks, approximately 1 1/2 to 2 pounds

BBQ Spice Mix:

  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

Other Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons olive or avocado oil
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • Propellant-free nonstick cooking spray, like Chosen Avocado Oil Spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Pat the chicken drumsticks dry and place in a mixing bowl. Drizzle with oil and toss to coat. Season with BBQ spice mix and toss to coat evenly.
  3. Cook Chicken: Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange chicken drumsticks in a single layer, cook for 10 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 8 minutes.
  4. Add BBQ Sauce: Baste the chicken with BBQ sauce and cook for 3-5 more minutes until caramelized.

Notes

  • Use propellant-free nonstick cooking spray for air frying.
  • Refined avocado oil is recommended for air frying.
  • To double the recipe, keep the first batch warm in a low oven.
