Ingredients

Units Scale

Fruits and Vegetables

  • 2 medium mangos, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 to 1 habanero pepper, finely chopped (with or without seeds, depending on spice preference)

Others

  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Finely chop the mangoes, red onion, red bell pepper, cilantro, and habanero pepper (wear gloves to handle the habanero to avoid irritation).
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the chopped mango, red onion, bell pepper, cilantro, and habanero pepper.
  3. Add Seasonings: Pour in the juice of half a lime and add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the bowl with the chopped ingredients.
  4. Mix and Taste: Stir all the ingredients thoroughly to combine. Taste the salsa and adjust seasoning with additional salt or lime juice as desired to balance flavor and spice.

Notes

  • You can use fresh or frozen mango. If using frozen, thaw completely and drain excess liquid before using to avoid watery salsa.
  • Wear kitchen gloves when chopping the habanero pepper to protect your skin from the spicy oils.
  • If you accidentally touch your face or eyes after handling habanero, rinse thoroughly with water to reduce irritation.
  • For less spiciness, substitute habanero with jalapeno or serrano pepper, or remove seeds from the habanero to reduce heat.
  • The spice level can be adjusted by including more or fewer habanero seeds according to your preference.
